LOVE. It is scary. Real, TRUE love will take you into the depths and heights of the unknown mysteries and ecstasy beyond what we can see.  It will bring you to surrender, giving up the things of this earth that define you. Yes, we are human, but we were made for MORE. I want raw, bold Love.  Just as the infinity of the stars and deepness of the universe have no end, so does God’s love.

Growing up, I yearned to be an astronaut.  I wanted everyone to know my love for outer space and to someday become an astronaut.  I also have an infatuation with the stars, but what it boils down to is: I love to observe the stars. Looking back on my humorous ideas of astronautical escapades or my obsession with stars, there remains one problem: the thought of actually GOING into space scares me to no end. Outer space is a mystery, a complete unknown-yet glorious.

I also have always had a love for the beach and anything ocean.  However, when I go to the beach and hop in salty water, I only go as far as I can touch or hurriedly swim to the sand bar. And to be honest, the time I spend in the water produces an underlying sense of vulnerability and an eerie feeling of the unknown of what is going on around me.  If I were to go into the depths of the ocean—miles down—I would literally die before I even reached “true depths”.

Here’s the kicker: God’s Love is DEEPER than any ocean and HIGHER than the highest heavens (psalm 108:4). But this IS how terrifying His love is.  It is utterly life—heart  piercing—changing. Our hearts were CREATED for this Love and nothing less.

Jesus, your Love has NO bounds. I am BOUND to Love.

You see, God doesn’t operate in our reality.  His deep love begins past the skies and even deeper than the unknown areas of the ocean.  We love to observe scripture and observe God’s love, but do I take the Word as living and breathing and let His Love literally consume me?: “But be doers of the word, and not hearers only.” (James 1:22)

Salvation is free but living for Him will cost you everything”

  4. Lauren, this is beautiful. I get the same eery feeling when I look at the stars or think how deep the ocean is. It truly is amazing how much the LORD loves us; endless and bottomless. Wow, thank you for sharing your heart :)
    Love,

  5. I really like the analogy you used comparing the skies and the unknown to God's love. We do not know the extents of Space and how far it reaches, just as we cannot possibly know the extents of God's love. It is infathomable. Great writing!

  7. I always wanted to be an astronaut too! Or at least and astronomer or something.. but it wasn't the idea of going in to space that scared me out of it, it was having to learn all of that physics!! :)
Your heart and mind is such a beautiful place and our God has truly blessed me by allowing me to know you!

  8. Lauren,

Not a time spent with you goes by without poetry leaving your lips. You have a perpetual glow about your words that is both uplifting and comforting. I am refreshed by your enthusiasm, and you are truly a wonderful woman of God. Keep striving, and He will be faithful to push you past your worldly limits :)

So eloquent...Thanks for allowing me the privilege to be built up by you. He has lit the flame inside of you and He is fanning it to the point where it is an unfathomable fire. I thank Him for you and I thank Him for your heart.

  10. Lauren,

You are an amazing woman of God and an amazing writer. I love this blog and admire your Godly character and passion for Jesus. Especially, I like the last paragraph about God not operating in our reality....salvation is free but living with Him and for Him does cost everything. Keep up your passion and constant pursuit of the Lord. He blesses those who diligently seek Him, and I know that you do that with ALL of your heart. You are a joy to be around and I see you as someone who is always shining the light of Jesus and spreading the love that you've received from Him - you can only give the amount that you've received and I know that you have encountered His love by observing what comes out. It's a blessing to know you!

  12. Yes, God's love is grand. But how can we, as humans, expect to mimic such a love even minutely? That's where we err, is when things like love get into human hands. I'd be interested to know what happens to our attitudes of love when we've been wronged by it. God's love of humanity is easy when compared to humanity's love of humanity.
